Hervé Billaut is a tone painter . In his recent, widely acclaimed recording of Isaac Albeniz’ masterpiece Iberia he sketches with imagination and sensibility a spelling, sensual, “wild landscape of the secret Spain” (Epok). Audiences have followed him through this musical journey with enthusiasm in Paris or La Roque d’Anthéron as well as in South America and in China.
According to this musical explorer, being a musician means going beyond one’s brilliant technique in order to create a world of sensations, impressions and emotions. By applying this principle, Hervé has become rapidly a well regarded professor at the Conservatoire de Lyon and at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris where he has been teaching for ten years.
He, himself, went through a rigorous training as a talented child, he graduated at 16 from the Conservatory of Paris with the highest distinctions. Among his numerous awards (Viotti, 1981 ; Vercelli, 1982 ; Epinal, 1983 ; Pretoria, 1990 ; Tokyo, 1995) , he won the 3 rd Grand Prize at the prestigious Long – Thibaud Piano Competition in 1983.

Since then, he has performed all over the world, playing at the Theatre des Champs Elysées, the Salle Pleyel in Paris or the Teàtro Real in Madrid as well as in Latin America or in the Far East. These tours have enabled him to build an extraordinary large repertoire, from Bach to Copland, as well as gaining great stage experience, acquired by playing in front of the most versatile audiences. He gave the national premiere of Ravel’s Concerto for the Left Hand and Mozart’s “Jeunehomme” Concerto in Ecuador.

His artistic friendships reveal an open personality: invited by the Orchestre National de France, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic or the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, he has played under the direction of John Eliot Gardiner and Yehudi Menuhin; an accomplished chamber musician, he shares complicity with pianists Frank Braley, Philippe Cassard, Cédric Tiberghien or violinists Stéphane Tran Ngoc and Naoko Ogihara; a regular guest in Radio France, he often participates in broadcast or gives live radio recitals; he still deepens his musical thinking by collaborating with such musicians as Marie-Françoise Bucquet and Jorge Chaminé or working at the Kempff Fondation in Positano; as the soloist of the Monte-Carlo Ballet, he has worked with choreographers Jean-Christophe Maillot, John Neumeier and Roland Petit.

« Music is an experience, which liberates from gravity » – Hervé Billaut made his own this sentence by Leon Fleisher, who reports with pride and humour: « A former student of mine also pilots airplanes. »

On stage, Hervé Billaut plays the way he is: going straight to the essential.

François Chaplin trained at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) with the
Bulgarian pianist Ventsislav Yankoff and with Jacqueline Robin

His concerts and recordings have met with great critical acclaim, and he has been described as “one of the most original and engaging of all French pianists”. His sumptuous sound, great expressiveness and feeling, and his intelligence as an artist enable him to understand and bring out the dark moods of Brahms, the whimsicality of Schumann, the brightness of Debussy, and the personality of Mozart, Poulenc and others.

François Chaplin’s other recordings include works by Chopin (Ballades, Barcarolle, Berceuse), Schumann (Kreisleriana, Kinderszenen), Poulenc (works for two pianos with Alexandre Tharaud), Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (sonatas) and Mozart (concertos, chamber version).

Derrien, A. Merlin, G. Le Gallic). Gaëlle Le Gallic leur consacre une émission «Concert de midi et demi Jeunes Interprètes» en avril 2012 d’après le concert donné à Radio France en mars 2012.

Bruno Procopio is rapidly becoming one of the most prominent harpsichordists of the new generation.

Born in Brazil in 1976, Mr. Procopio began his musical studies in Rio de Janeiro with Marcello Fagerlande and Pedro Personne. In 1994, his exceptional talent brought him to France, where he entered the harpsichord class of Noëlle Spieth, at the Conservatoire National Régional de Paris, obtaining his diploma soon after. In 1996 he gained admission to the prestigious Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he studied the harpsichord with Christophe Rousset and Pierre Hantaï, chamber music with Blandine Ranou and Kenneth Weiss, and pianoforte with Patrick Cohen. He graduated in 2001 with first prizes in harpsichord and continuo performance.

In 2004 Mr. Procopio created the ensemble Les Solistes du Palais Royal. One of his primary objectives is to promote the works of major Brazilian composers of the colonial period. He collaborates actively with musicologists in his native country to create original, exciting programs which reunite the lesser known masterpieces of the new world with those of their celebrated European contemporaries.

Bruno Procopio is the artistic director of the Early Music Festival of Paraty in Brazil.

Bruno Procopio founded the Paraty label in 2006, with the support of Intégral Distribution, in order to explore, on period instruments, the rich repertory of baroque and classical music.

The first release for the label is vol. 2 of the Bach Partitas, continuing a project started by Bruno Procopio in 2004. The first volume of the Partitas was very well received by music critics, with five stars from Diapason magazine, and a critic from Fanfare magazine listing it as one of the five best Baroque CDs of the year in USA.

Paraty’s second release, scheduled for fall 2007, will present the complete sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord by J. S. Bach, with Emmanuelle Guigues, gamba, and Bruno Procopio, harpsichord.
This CD Winner of the Choc Award (Le Monde de la Musique).

The Metamorphoses Quartet was born out of a strong desire to explore the repertoire of the string quartet and to share its demanding expressive strength and depth with an ever- widening audience, all united in one musical breath. The result is a series of metamorphoses, similar to those recounted by Ovid in his masterpiece to which the Quartet wished to pay homage: fleeting, perpetual, invisible, and above all plural. This art of living- together and playing-together transports performers and listeners in a large movement which goes far beyond their imagination and understanding; because a quartet is a four- headed beast, an ever-changing multifaceted instrument “human, too human”, to quote Nietzsche. Finally, metamorphosis is a form of variation, the sculpting process of silence and time by the musical element; variation is an ever underlying red thread throughout the whole history of music, for which metamorphosis would thus act as an etiological principle. This rigorous artistic vision was developed and nurtured through contact with their teachers: after graduating from a master’s degree in chamber music in the class of François Salque (Ysaÿe Quartet) at the CNSMDP, they were lucky enough to study several years with Hatto Beyerle, a founding member of the legendary Alban Berg Quartet, within the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA), of which the quartet has been a nominated member since 2018. In 2023, they completed their chamber music postgraduate studies at the Vienna Music University (MDW Wien) with Prof. Johannes Meissl, and became artists in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Waterloo (Belgium) under the direction of Corina Belcea, Miguel Da Silva and Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden. The quartet is also currently studying with Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet) at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, as well as with the Modigliani String Quartet in Paris. They also benefited from the advice of many other great chamber musicians of our time, such as the Ebène Quartet at the Rencontres Musicales d’Evian, the Kronos Quartet at Paris Philharmonie String Quartet Biennale, Ori Kam (Jerusalem Quartet) at the Ravel Academy, as well as Valentin Erben (Alban Berg Quartet), Eckart Runge (Artemis Quartet), Christophe Coin (Mosaïques Quartet), Petr Prause (Talich Quartet), Alfred Brendel, Itamar Golan and Patrick Jüdt. The Metamorphoses Quartet won the ProQuartet prize at the FNAPEC European competition and the Tremplin for young quartets at the Philharmonie de Paris. They are also laureates of the Ravel Academy, as well as the Royaumont and Villefavard Abbey foundations. This career path has led them to perform in the most prestigious concert halls with renowned chamber musicians: Wigmore Hall, Philharmonie de Paris, Franz Liszt Academy Budapest, Teatro Goldoni in Florence, the Prades Festival, Quatuors à Bordeaux, the Potager du Roi in Versailles (at the invitation of Gérard Caussé and the Quatuor Modigliani), Cordes-sur-Ciel Festival, Festival des Arcs, Radio Classique Festival, Nuit du Quatuor next to the Hermès and Zaïde String Quartets, together with Nemanja Radulovic, Pierre Génisson, Laure Favre-Kahn, François Salque, Alexis Descharmes, Emmanuelle Bertrand, as well as Roman Borisov, Aurélien Pontier and Paul Zientara. The repertoire of the Metamorphoses Quartet ranges from the great masters of the genre to the exploration of the most contemporary repertoires, from Haydn to Camille Pépin, and endeavors to bring to light several little-known works through innovative projects, such as their show “Du coq à l’alouette” entirely written by the Quartet and created in 2022, or “Une pièce bien à elles » (« A piece of their own »), entirely devoted to women composers, that they are committed to play in all types of places through their regular interventions at the SAMU social, in schools everywhere in France, in residential care homes (EHPAD)… The quartet is currently artist in residence at the Singer-Polignac Foundation and at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel (Waterloo, Belgium).
